This is to announce C-Kermit 6.0 for Stratus VOS fault-tolerant computer
systems. C-Kermit is a platform- and medium-independent communications
software package whose major functions are:
. Terminal sessions
. Fast and reliable file transfer
. Character-set translation
. Script programming to automate all communications tasks
The VOS version of C-Kermit operates on serial, TCP/IP, and X.25 connections.
C-Kermit 6.0 replaces version 5A(190) of October 1994. Its major new
features include:
. Intelligent, location-sensitive dialing capabilities
. Support for modern high-speed modems
. Lots of file-transfer improvements
. A new block-structured script programming language with many new features
. More character sets supported (Hebrew, etc)
. Year 2000 compatibility
And lots more. Like the other C-Kermit 6.0 versions (for UNIX, VMS, etc),
the new Stratus release is fully documented in the new second edition of
"Using C-Kermit".
You can find the new VOS version of C-Kermit 6.0 at the Kermit website:
http://www.columbia.edu/kermit/ck60.html
Prebuilt binaries (encoded in a special form, accompanied by decoding macros)
are available for the new Continuum (Jetta) platform, as well as the older
Intel i860 XAR (Atlantic) RISC platform, and Motorola mc680x0 (Fresco) CISC
models.
The Stratus VOS adaptation of C-Kermit was originally done by David Lane,
formerly of Stratus. Version 6.0 was brought to VOS by Kernie Brashier of
Stratosphere, Ltd., Stratus Consulting Group:

Thanks to Kernie for the good work, and to Richard Shuford for finding him!

P.S. Since C-Kermit 6.0 was released for UNIX a few months ago, I haven't
heard from anybody who has built it successfully on Stratus FTX -- If you
have done so, or would like to, please contact me. Thanks!
